Nothing sends the message more clearly on Valentine's Day, than red roses. We all know it means love.

The many different colors of roses each carry a specific meaning... a message... from the sender to the receiver. If you are going to give roses to your mom, a sister, your daughter, or a friend, a rose color other than red may be
more appropriate.

This Valentine's Day, learn the meaning behind different colors of roses and send the right message.

Feed the Birds Day

It's Feed the Birds Day.

The ground hog saw his shadow yesterday, so we know there will be six more weeks of winter.

That means our backyard birds need us to help them get through the rest of winter. As their natural food supply dwindles, make sure your bird feeders are full.

Did you save some sunflower seeds from last year's garden to feed them? High energy seeds are the best food for your backyard birds

Don't get out the seed starting supplies just yet.

This morning in Gobler's Knob, Pennsylvania, Punxsutawney Phil saw his shadow. He predicts there will be six more weeks of winter. So, if you are tired of winter, and want the start of the gardening season to begin, you have Phil to blame.

In the meantime, we've got our houseplants to play with.

While you are waiting for spring,  find the seeds you need.

Gardening News from Pennsylvania

Tuesday, February 2nd is a huge day for gardeners. A big announcement out of Pennsylvania, will let us know whether we will soon be able to start our spring crops, or whether we will have to wait another 6 weeks.

Every February 2nd, Punxsutawney Phil, America’s most famous ground hog, is awoken from his cozy winter’s nap. Phil is poked, cajoled and pushed out of his den. Squinting into the daylight, Phil will either see his shadow, or he won’t . If he sees his shadow, there will be six more weeks of winter. If he doesn’t, gardeners across the country can get out their seeds, starting soil, seed trays and propagation mats. Spring is right around the corner.

Be sure to check back here on the 2nd, to see Phil’s official prediction.

In the meantime, find the seeds you need.
